Provider Role and Relationship to Nearli

Providers on Nearli participate as independent contractors, not employees, partners, or agents of Nearli. Nearli operates as a marketplace that helps connect providers with members seeking in-person services. Providers deliver services independently and are responsible for how those services are offered and performed. All providers on our platform must abide by our Code of Conduct

What Being an Independent Provider Means

As an independent provider on Nearli, you:

  • Operate your own business or professional practice
  • Set your own rates, availability, and service offerings
  • Choose which requests or bookings to accept
  • Provide services using your own methods, tools, and professional judgment
  • Communicate directly with members regarding services Nearli does not direct, supervise, or control how providers perform their services.

What Nearli Does and Does Not Do

Nearli does:

  • Provide a platform for discovery, communication, and booking.
  • Review provider applications and credentials for approval.
  • Facilitate payments and messaging.
  • Set standards for participation on the platform.

Nearli does not:

  • Employ providers.
  • Assign work or require providers to accept bookings.
  • Set provider schedules or pricing.
  • Provide training, supervision, or instruction for service delivery.
  • Guarantee outcomes or results.

Accepting Bookings & Payments

When a member requests a booking, you’ll have the option to accept or decline the session directly in your Nearli Dashboard. You will be notified via email for every booking request, and you are never penalized for declining a booking. Once accepted, the session is confirmed and scheduled.

Sessions are automatically marked as complete 48 hours after the scheduled session time, unless an issue is reported by either party. After a session is marked complete, payment is processed and sent directly to your connected Stripe account.

If there is a problem with a session, be sure to report it within the 48-hour window so our team can review and assist.

Provider Responsibilities

Providers are responsible for:

  • Delivering services safely and professionally
  • Holding any required certifications, licenses, or insurance
  • Complying with applicable laws and regulations
  • Accurately representing qualifications and experience
  • Maintaining up-to-date information on their profile
  • Carrying appropriate professional liability insurance where applicable
  • Providers are also responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and business expenses.

No Employment Relationship

Using Nearli does not create an employment, partnership, joint venture, or agency relationship between providers and Nearli. Providers are not entitled to employee benefits, including but not limited to:

  • Minimum wage protections
  • Overtime pay
  • Workers’ compensation
  • Unemployment insurance
  • Health or retirement benefits

Tax Reporting

Providers on Nearli participate as independent contractors and are responsible for reporting their own income and paying applicable taxes. Nearli may issue IRS Form 1099-NEC or 1099-K, as required by law, to providers who meet applicable reporting thresholds based on payments processed through the platform. Providers are responsible for providing accurate tax information and should consult a tax professional regarding their individual tax obligations.

Do I need to be verified to post a listing?

Yes. All providers must complete Nearli’s manual verification process and be approved before their listing can go live.

Do I need insurance?


Providers are responsible for carrying any appropriate general/professional liability insurance required for their services. Nearli does not provide insurance coverage for providers.

How much does Nearli charge to use the platform?


Nearli charges a platform commission on completed bookings. The exact rate is shown clearly before you accept bookings.

How do I get paid?

Payments are processed through the Nearli platform. Payouts are sent directly to providers via Stripe (setup prior to your first listing) after completed sessions, according to the payout schedule.

Will I receive a 1099?


Nearli may issue IRS Form 1099-NEC or 1099-K when required by law, based on payments processed through the platform. Providers are responsible for reporting income and paying taxes.

Can I decline bookings?


Yes. Providers choose which requests to accept and are never required to take a booking.

Why Haven't I Received Payment For a Session?

Sessions are marked as completed by the system automatically 48 hours after the session at which point payment is processed to your connected Stripe account. Payment is not processed before this 48 hour point, please contact our support if it has been over 48 hours and you have not received a confirmation of completion and payment for the service.
